Help Us Rebuild Lives in the Wake of the Fires

The recent fires in Los Angeles have caused devastation that is unimaginably vast.

These fires have left profound impacts on our communities including homes destroyed, businesses leveled and thousands of lives upheaved.

The Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club stands with ALL people affected including our staff, our families, and our Los Angeles communities.

Our organization is focusing efforts on the relief, recovery, and rebuilding of Altadena. We are concentrating our efforts here because this is the area where we have the most direct connection to fire victims and can have the most impact.

We urgently need your support to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts.

This multi-phase approach for how to help was put together by an Altadena fire victim living through this crisis who is also a staff at our Club. We recognize the importance of having input on our services from people with lived experience.

Here’s How Your Contribution Makes a Difference:

Phase 1: Immediate Relief

Food:

  • Easy to prepare food delivered to churches and distribution sites in Altadena since January 9
    • Food items such as fruit, snacks, packaged pre-made sandwiches and prepared meals included
  • Groceries for people with cooking capabilities available for pick up evety Thursday, ongoing

Essential Support:

  • Immediate relief by providing toiletries, vitamins, blankets, clothing and other essentials.
  • Items for Children:
    • Books
    • Toys
    • Art supplies
    • Comfort items for kids- fuzzy blankets, plushies
    • Provided in partnership with BGC San Fernando Valley and Hollywood BGC

Phase 2: Uplifting Residents of Altadena

  • Community Coordination: Formation of an Altadena Committee of Trusted Allies to help ensure relief is provided directly to the people who need it most!
  • Direct AssistanceConnecting donors and funds directly  to people on the ground who urgently need it for temporary and intermediary housing

Phase 3: Long-Term Support

  • Rebuild and Restore: Our ultimate objective is to support  the rebuilding of at least 2 HOMES  and support the long-term recovery of the Altadena  community.
  • Your support will help families stay in the community they call home and help efforts to stop people from being permanently displaced.  This is of particular importance in West Altadena, a working class community with a long rich  history of serving as a safe place welcoming people from diverse backgrounds, mixed races, and serving as an area where Black families and individuals could buy homes during redlining.

Donating clothing, household items, small appliances, and furniture to our Thrift Store helps in two ways:

  1. Fire victims can shop for free at our store (with ID verifying address in burn zone;  some restrictions apply) to help replace clothing and other items lost in the fire.
  2. 50% of proceeds will go to Fire Relief, and 50% will go to youth development programs for underserved youth
